Chairs are more than just functional pieces of furniture; they have the power to transform a space and reflect the designer's vision. Symphony Number 7, designed by Chen Ting-Hsiang, takes inspiration from the graceful movements of music and translates them into a tangible form. The chair's sleek lines and curves evoke a sense of rhythm and harmony, inviting users to immerse themselves in the experience.
What sets Symphony Number 7 apart from other chairs is its integration of music and design. The chair is crafted using a combination of leather fabrics, providing a luxurious and comfortable seating experience. The softness and flexibility of the materials ensure that users can fully enjoy the chair's embrace.
The realization of Symphony Number 7 is made possible through the use of advanced technology. Full electric CNC tube bending machines are employed to create the chair's unique shape, allowing for precise bends and curves. The updated 3D software enables automatic spring-back compensation and in-cycle correction, ensuring the highest level of accuracy in the manufacturing process.
With dimensions of 630mm in width, 800mm in depth, and 720mm in height, Symphony Number 7 is designed to provide ample space and superior comfort. Its ergonomic backrest and spacious seat offer optimal support for the body, making it suitable for both home and business use.
The Symphony Number 7 project began in February 2016 in Torino and was completed in March 2018 in Taichung City. It was showcased at the Young Designers' Exhibition in April 2018, where it received accolades for its innovative design and artistic appeal.
Chen Ting-Hsiang, along with the design team consisting of Chang Jin and Lin Ji-Ting, worked under the guidance of faculty advisor Wei Ming-Shih to bring Symphony Number 7 to life. Their research focused on creating a chair that not only offers comfort but also promotes a healthy sitting posture. The chair's four curved backrest conforms to ergonomic principles, providing users with a comfortable and supportive seating experience.
One of the main challenges faced during the design process was achieving welding accuracy. However, through meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship, the team overcame this obstacle and created a chair that is both visually stunning and structurally sound.
Symphony Number 7 has been recognized for its excellence in design and was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life.
With its fusion of art, music, and design, Symphony Number 7 stands as a testament to the power of creativity and innovation. It is not just a chair; it is a work of art that enhances the aesthetic appeal of any space while providing exceptional comfort and functionality.
